Webster University students competed in the biennial Missouri student auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing on Friday and Saturday this weekend. We notched a fine showing, with two first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, three third-place finishes, and an honorable mention. Competing against much larger schools such as Truman State, UMKC, Missouri State, and Mizzou, this is a notable achievement indeed!
Senior Samantha Schmid, a voice primary in the B.A. program, won the senior women division in the third round of competition. Senior Derek Boemler, a voice performance major, won the senior men division.
Professor Carole Gaspar, head of voice studies at Webster, was among the adjudicators, as was I.
