John Lennon concert

by Jeffrey Carter

This week saw the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death.  We marked the event with a concert of some of his tunes.  Dr. Steve Schenkel led the concert, which included adjunct faculty, friends, and current students.

Here’s a shot of the performance from my seat in the concert hall:

The final song of the concert was Imagine. I sometimes view Somewhere over the rainbow as the unofficial secular national anthem in this country, and certainly as one of the most lasting songs of the 20th century.  But hearing Imagine this week moved me to tears, and reminded me again of the enduring power of this anthem of peace and brotherhood.  Maybe Imagine should be our anthem for this broken world?
