Webster University was very positively represented at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Missouri state competition on Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27.
Of the eighteen students who attended, fourteen progressed to the Semi-final round. Freshman Connor Scott, junior Lauren Honz and junior Dominic Mendoza received Honorable Mention in their categories. Caroline Camp, a junior, was a second place winner. Freshman Randell McGee and senior Emma Sorenson took first place in their categories. These students come from the four studios who entered students, those of Amanda Taylor, Debby Lennon, and full-time faculty Martha Hart and Carole Gaspar. Webster University staff pianists Nancy Mayo, Donna Vince and Mieko Bergt also received positive notice from judges for their excellent collaborative skills at the keyboard.
The NATS competition was held at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. The event featured three rounds of competition in categories by age and experience, capped by a winners’ recital. These 18 students mark the largest contingent ever to participate from Webster. A local area competition will be held at Principia College in Spring 2013.
