Seminars this semester

by Jeffrey Carter

Seminars often take place instead of the Thursday recital hour, or at various other times. Most guest master classes count as seminars too. While other seminars will likely be posted this term, current dates are

  • Tuesday, September 1 at 3 p.m. – Daniel Schene, Professor of Piano, in a ‘Professor’s Choice’ lecture
  • Thursday, September 3 at 12 noon – Sarah Bryan Miller, classical music critic for the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch
  • Thursday, September 10 at 12 noon – Dennis Owsley, jazz aficionado and radio personality, on ‘my life in music and jazz’
  • Thursday, September 17 at 12 noon – leadership from the local musicians’ union, in a discussion of what the union does and why their work is of benefit to you
  • TBA in September – Christine Brewer lecture and master class
  • TBA in October on a Wednesday at 3 p.m. – guys from Music Folk (down the street) giving a folk instrument demo
  • Friday, November 20 at 3 p.m. – Michael Horsley, music director for the MUNY, on what a professional music director does

We will host additional seminars in the jazz and instrumental areas, information about which will be posted on the student bulletin board in Thompson Music Building.
